The History of Yoni Steams
The Yoni Steam is an ancient healing ritual that we the indigenous peoples performed to ensure that the sacred portal of life was in an optimum condition to birth souls that would benefit humanity. The statement “a nation cannot rise higher than its women” is because whatever state of mind the woman is in that is all she can produce through her womb. The modern-day sitz bath was another example of how indigenous culture was usurped, renamed, and passed off as something new.

Determine Your Steam Method
If you do not have an official Yoni Steam Chair these are your options:
- Place your steam pot on a towel or rug on the floor and squat over it – this is what I do for the time being.
- Place the steam pot inside a freshly disinfected toilet – make sure the toilet has been thoroughly disinfected so as not to have bacteria being steamed into your sacred space.
You Will Need:
- 1 Yoni Steam & Bath Tea Bag
- 6 cups of water
- Stainless steel, ceramic, or glass pot (do not use aluminum pots – they are toxic)
- Warm socks to keep your feet warm
- Headcover to keep head warm
- Large blanket
Prepare Your Sacred Space
Before you begin your steam, set the mood to have the most calming experience possible, the better your experience the greater the chance you will incorporate this need ritual into your life and pass it on to your daughters.
- A cup of Womb Healing Tea to sip before and after your steam will help nourish and strengthen your reproductive system.
- Soothing Music will help you create the energy field of peace and serenity.
- And Candles help soften your environment and create a serene and calm ambiance to your ritual. PLEASE USE CAUTION WITH CANDLES – IT IS BEST TO PLACE THEM ABOVE YOU AND NOT ON THE FLOOR.
- It’s good to keep a Journal or pen and paper nearby to jot down any inspirational thoughts that you may have while connecting with your womb during this sacred ritual. Because they are pieces to your personal stories do not come all at the same time, so as to not overwhelm us The healing of our wombs clears traumas and in turn, you may have long forgotten memories, you will definitely want to journal them. As these pieces come together, you will find that you are actually putting a puzzle together – the puzzle that will answer the lifelong questions you have had about yourself. My personal advice is to take good notes because it is these memories, epiphanies, and inspirations that will sustain in times to come.
STEAM PREPARATION DIRECTIONS
- Bring 5 cups of water for small Tea Bags, and 8 cups of water for the Large Tea Bags to a soft boil over medium heat.
- Add 1 Yoni Steam & Bath Tea Bag to the boiling water and cover the pot with a top.
- Turn flame down and allow to simmer for an additional 7 minutes, ensure not to over boil.
- Take the pot off of the heat and allow herbs to steep for an extra 5 minutes. (Note: You may leave the teabag in or take it out – I leave it in)
CHECK STEAM TEMPERATURE
- After steeping, pour your Yoni Steam Tea into the bowl that you will use for streaming or use the same pot you made the tea in.
- Test the temperature by placing your hand over the rising steam. If it is too hot, let the steam cool until it reaches a level of heat that is comfortable for you.
YOU’RE NOW READY TO STEAM
- Put on your socks, hat, or headwrap and disrobe from the waist down.
- Find a comfortable position on top of your throne (it’s perfectly fine if your legs are open).
- Wrap your blanket around the lower half of your body and the throne.
- Make sure that the blanket is big enough to cover your body and your throne, to ensure that no steam escapes. (IF THE STEAM IS STILL TOO HOT, GET UP AND MOVE AWAY! This process should be pleasant, not painful.)
- Allow the steam to permeate your yoni (vagina) for 20-40 minutes until you no longer feel the steam.
FOCUSED INTENTION
- Ease your mind—if it helps you may also drink an herbal tea like Chamomile or Lavender for added relaxation.
- Do a few stretches to help relax your body.
- While atop your throne, take three deep breaths to start your relaxation process
- Allow the steam to permeate your yoni (vagina) for 20-40 minutes until you no longer feel the steam.
- As you breathe, think of something that makes you feel good about yourself and hold that feeling and image in your mind.
WOMB HEALING VIBRATIONAL CHANT
- Chanting before, during, and after your ritual helps to calm you, and reconnect you with your womb.
- The very vibration of your voice will help awaken, activate and begin your womb’s healing process.
- As you sit and focus on your womb, periodically Chant in increments of three’s the word “WOMB – it will sound like chanting “OM” (compliments of Queen Afua)
- This MP4 is an example of how the chant sounds, Note this is just an example to help you begin your journey, but by all means, if your spirit, your womb moves you to chant something else or add to it – just know that that is exactly what “you” need, follow your own intuition and inspiration’
W–O–M–B . . . W–O–M-B . . . W–O–M-B
The purpose of women reconnecting with our Sacred Space is to heal our wombs, reclaim our bodies, restore our voices, and heal the world. And to know that our true story is the wisdom and power to follow and trust our own intuition and inner guidance. SO MAKE RETURNING TO YOURSELF FUN AND JOYOUS! THAT IS THE WISE WOMAN’S WAY.

IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE STEAM SESSION
- Once the steam is finished rising, remain covered, then go to a warm bed and lie down for 60 minutes.
- It is essential that you keep yourself covered – just as it is if you are having menstrual cramps during your cycle.
- Sweating is normal as the benefits from your steam continue to work to detox your body.
- Lying down is optional but recommended for best results.
- After lying down for 60 minutes (again, optional), your yoni steam session is complete.
Discard Used Yoni Tea
I recommend discarding the Yoni Tea, remember the purpose of the steam is to purge your body of toxins, as you perspire that water with toxins falls back into the water, so all used teas should be tossed out. In addition, if you choose to place your steam inside the toilet make sure that you have disinfected it with bleach to destroy all harmful bacteria that can enter your body through steam. Personally, I don’t think that is a good idea because toilets no matter how clean are still used to eliminate fecal matter that contains many parasites. However, if you choose to use this method – DISINFECT, DISINFECT, DISINFECT!
HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU STEAM
Yoni steams can be done two or three times per month (except while menstruating), as you begin to incorporate Yoni Self Care into your life you will notice a powerful reconnection with your womb and a more pleasant and regulated menstrual cycle. I recommend doing three consecutive steams over a 3-day span to give your body the opportunity to purge and release more effectively.
WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT
Everyone’s experiences will vary after steaming, but the general commonalities are:
- A slight tingling sensation in the vaginal area is healthy and is merely the steam at work.
- Some women have reported feeling intense arousal almost immediately following a session
- Also, note that your menstruation may make an appearance as a part of the detoxing period. Again, this is normal and nothing to cause alarm.
- After this, your next menstrual cycle may appear lighter and be less painful, or it may be heavier and darker, either way, it’s a sign that your body is purging toxins that must be cleansed before a better womb state can be established.
Vaginal Burn Precautions & Solutions
It is my hope that you do not experience vaginal burns (like I did from steam that is too hot, but in the event that you do here are some burn care tips – this is what I learned so I can help you NOT do what I did.
Burn Precautions
- Always be sure to double-check that the steam temperature is mild to prevent burns.
- Remove all genital piercings before steaming – they heat up and cause burns.
- Do Not use essential oils for steaming – they are very concentrated and can cause burns.
Burn Remedy
- Immediately apply cold water or a towel-covered ice pack to the vaginal area
- After bathing or showers rinse the vaginal area with cold water and natural vinegar solution. The vinegar water helps balance the Ph level and ease the burning sensation.
- If urinating is painful, place a wet cold towel on the vaginal area and urinate into the towel – then rinse the towel and squeeze cold water on the vaginal area.
- If you are not ALLERGIC to latex apply aloe vera to the vaginal area as soon as possible after the burn and use until healed. Honey may also be used to help relieve any burning sensation.
NOTE: Aloe Vera contains natural latex, if you are allergic to latex do not use
WHEN NOT TO STEAM
- When pregnant or the chance of being pregnant.
- During menstruation
- Herpes Outbreak
- When you have a vaginal infection
- Have an Intrauterine birth control device (IUD)
- Have open cuts, wounds, stitches, and or sores.
