Spiritual Significance

The Ankh is an Ancient Egyptian symbol of the imperishable vital force of life. Related to the life-giving properties of air and water, the Ankh  depicts three symbolic principles found in creation:

1. the circle (female member)
2. the cross (male member)
3.  unity (the male member united with that the female)

Life literally occurs as a result of the union of spirit and matter, the circle representing the immortal and eternal part (absolute reality) and the cross representing that which is mortal and transient (illusion-matter). Its similarity to the female symbol alludes to the regenerative, formative properties of the Ankh.
