Natural Hair Care Herbal Remedies

Leave-in Herbal Hair Rinses
The following herbs help restore sheen, body, and vibrancy to your hair. They may be left in the hair or rinsed out.

  • Normal Dark Hair– Rosemary, Sage, Lavender
  • Normal Light Hair -Chamomile, Calendula
  • Dry Hair – Comfrey. Marshmallow (the herb, not the candy)
  • Oily Dark Hair – Yarrow, Thyme, Sage
  • Dandruff – Thyme, Nettle, Lavender

Herbal Rinse Preparation

  1. Choose any combination of the above herbs.
  2. Bring 1 quart of water to a boil, add selected herb(s), and boil over low heat in a covered pot for 20 minutes.
  3. Turn off the heat and steep until cool.
  4. Strain out loose herbs or remove tea bags.
  5. Add 10 drops of lavender essential oil, and shake well.
  6. Use 1/2 cup as a final rinse after shampoo and conditioning.
  7. Leave in, or rinse out of hair with cold water.
  8. Store remaining rinse in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.

PRE-SHAMPOO STIMULATING SCALP TREATMENT
Refresh and cleanse your scalp with this invigorating scalp treatment.

1 drop of peppermint essential oil
2 drops rosemary essential oil
1 Tablespoon witch hazel

Directions

  1. Combine all ingredients.
  2. Massage the mixture into the scalp using your fingertips.
  3. Massage in circular motion.
  4. Tap the scalp with fingertips, and gently pull hair away from the scalp to stimulate circulation.
  5. Shampoo, condition, and style hair as usual.

HOT SESAME OIL TREATMENT
This hot oil treatment will restore lost essential fatty acids to the hair and scalp.

  1. Add 10 drops of lavender and rosemary essential oils to 2 ounces of sesame oil.
  2. Before washing, start with the size of a quarter, and apply oil to hair from scalp to ends. Use additional if needed, and store the remaining oil in a cool place for future treatments.
  3. Apply plastic cap to head.
  4. Process under the dryer for 15 to 20 minutes or for 30 minutes without dryer.
  5. Apply shampoo to hair and allow to sit for 5 minutes to dissolve residual oil.
  6. Lather shampoo and massage through hair.
  7. Shampoo a second time.
  8. If hair is tangled, apply a cream moisturizer and work through.
  9. Rinse with warm water, then a final rinse of cold water.

GREY HAIR HOT OIL TREATMENT
To prevent discoloration of gray hair use coconut oil instead of sesame. Add 10 drops of lavender and rosemary essential oils to coconut oil. Follow the same directions as the Sesame Hot Oil Treatment.

AVOCADO MOISTURIZING CONDITIONER

  1. Avocado conditioners leave the hair shiny and bright.
  2. Chop an avocado in the blender until very fine.
  3. Massage into the hair, and cover with a plastic cap.
  4. Allow processing for 20 minutes.
  5. Rinse thoroughly with warm water.
  6. Apply shampoo to hair and allow to sit for 5 minutes to dissolve residual oil.
  7. Lather shampoo and massage through hair.
  8. Shampoo a second time.
  9. If hair is tangled, apply a cream moisturizer and work through.
  10. Rinse with warm water, then a final rinse of cold water.

ITCHY SCALP TREATMENT

  1. Add 25 drops of tea tree essential oil, 1/4 teaspoon of sesame oil, 8 ounces of witch hazel, shake well.
  2. Apply to the scalp using a dropper or with fingertips.
  3. Leave in, or shampoo.
