The Art of Food Preparation

Food preparation is a very spiritual process. During the preparation, not only are we infusing the food with physical seasonings and flavors to create a specific texture, taste, and experience. We are also infusing it with an energy field, the energy from our bodies, the thoughts of our minds, and the vibrancy of our spirit.

If a meal is prepared in anger, anger is what it will resonate, and what we will reflect. The taste and vibration of the food will have the same effect on our health that being angry does. Anger and resentment literally weaken the immune system, poisons the bloodstream, and causes the breakdown of our overall health. Eating foods infused with anger or any negative emotions will do the same.

Likewise, if we prepare our meals with joy, and a spirit of calm, the food will have the same effect, and will heal our bodies and calm our minds and spirit. Generally, when a mother says she cannot get her child to eat anything, nine times out of ten she is a mother that does not like to cook and only does so, out of obligation.

Therefore, the preparation of her meals is not prepared with a calm nurturing spirit — but begrudgingly; the children pick up on this energy field and reject the food. They, however, do not realize this to be the reason, but it is. Not to mention, that because it was not prepared with a willing spirit it probably does not taste very good either.

The state of mind that we prepare our meals with is as equally important as the quality of ingredients we choose.

I have heard women say that they do not like to cook for themselves, but when they cook for a man, they like the food, that is because they have a greater love and appreciation, for someone else than they do for themselves.
If you are not the most, deserving of your own love and kindness, first and foremost, then who is?

Six Food Flavors
In order to keep the systems of our body in balance each meal must contain each of the six flavors of food:

  • sweet*
  • bitter
  • sour
  • spicy
  • salty
  • pungent (ex. ginger)

*Sweet is defined as a food that has sweet properties such as carrots or beets, not necessarily a food that has been sweetened with sugar.
