Bowel Maintenance

Aside from the fact that the average person does not eat a balanced diet of whole grains, drink enough water, or is mobile enough, most people suffer from severe constipation simply because we fail to heed the natural urge to eliminate it. We ignore the urge because we are simply too busy or too lazy to do so. Unfortunately, this pattern is generally established in childhood, so by the time, we become adults we no longer recognize the subtle urge to go. If we heeded nature’s call, we would be synchronized with our body’s natural rhythm and prevent constipation and a host of other diseases that cause it.

The most important thing to do for good intestinal health is to make sure waste is kept moving at a consistent pace.

For a society that believes in 3 square meals a day, there should be at least the equivalent of 3 square bowel movements a day. Otherwise, fecal matter builds up and becomes trapped, preventing nutrients from being absorbed, and establishing a toxic environment of rot, putrefaction, and a very bloated belly causing diseases of all types, constipation Prevention Solutions

Probiotics

The intestinal tract contains various beneficial bacteria that the digestive process is dependent upon, when the balance of these bacteria is upset, digestion becomes very difficult. In addition, other imbalances are created, such as yeast infections that generally occur during or after a series of antibiotics.

Antibiotics

Antibiotics are a broad-spectrum therapy, their job is to destroy bacteria, the problem is they destroy all bacteria, both good and bad, causing the yeast that is supposed to be in our intestinal tract to grow out of balance attempting to locate the bacteria that it normally feeds on.

For women, the yeast makes its way through the walls of the intestines into the vaginal area and causes vaginal yeast infections. To address the yeast at its source the (good) bacteria must be restored, the solution is to provide the body with probiotics, generally called acidophilus or flora. Because good bacteria are such a crucial part of intestinal health, probiotic supplements should be a part of our weekly routine.

Hydration

Without adequate hydration, fecal matter is unable to move freely through the colon. The longer it remains in the colon, it becomes very sticky and unable to flow out of the body.

Lemon Water Flush

Without adequate hydration, fecal matter cannot move freely through the colon, the longer it remains in the body, it attaches to the walls of the colon.

Herbal Laxative

Cascara Sagrada helps strengthen the intestinal walls, and activates the natural peristalsis motion of the colon, without causing them to become dependent upon the herb.

Foods High in Flora

Eating fermented foods also helps maintain good flora in the intestinal tract. Foods such as:

  • Miso soup
  • Kombucha
  • Pickles
  • Sauerkraut
  • Kimchi

Enemas

While you may go “eww!” to this method, I assure you it is the most effective when you need to relieve now. The key is to create a calm process for yourself, knowing that your hospital enema experience, while unpleasant does not have to be that way.

Should you choose to use this method, make sure to use water that is infused with something, such as herbal tea, or lemon water, coffee is very effective because it also flushes the liver or a pinch of salt. Plain water, is very harsh, much like putting water in the eye, as opposed to a saline solution of softened water.

Fiber

The fiber most beneficial for your body is whole grain bread, like that not-so-soft whole wheat bread.

Always Listen to Your Body

We have all been there, the urge came, and we just kept doing what we were doing. Then the urge was gone!

The thing about the bowels is that we must honor the time the bowels need to expel because unless we intend to take an enema, we will have to wait for the urge to come back around.

Unfortunately, when it does, the fecal matter from the last missed urge has hardened – and it probably won’t be so pleasant, and you get up feeling like it just was not quite enough
